Sister of Slain Police Officer Calls Out Club for Growth’s “Dishonest” Attack on Steve Marshall
“If Congressman Moore has any integrity, he’ll demand this ad be taken down immediately.”
(Montgomery, Ala.) – Brenda Barnes, sister of a police officer murdered in the line of duty, is firing back at a Washington, D.C. special interest group exploiting her brother’s death in attempts to sway the U.S. Senate election for Barry Moore. Club for Growth, a Washington, D.C. based super PAC group bankrolling Moore’s Senate effort with money from out-of-state billionaires, is running radio, television and digital ads in targeted Alabama media markets that falsely claim Attorney General Steve Marshall, Moore’s primary competition in the race for U.S. Senate, is weak on crime.
Barnes, whose family credits Attorney General Steve Marshall with delivering justice after her brother’s murder, says the ads are a brazen lie and is demanding Moore call for their immediate removal. This weekend, prominent Alabama political commentator Dale Jackson, appearing on “Alabama Politics This Week,” agreed: “They’re lies. I don’t know what else you want me to tell you… and you’re going to call Steve Marshall of all people ‘weak on crime’ and cherry pick things out?”
In a statement, Brenda Barnes responded to the pain inflicted upon her family by Club for Growth’s malicious and untrue ad campaign, saying:
“What the group supporting Barry Moore is doing in this ad isn’t just wrong, it’s a lie. They’ve twisted my family’s tragedy to try to help Barry Moore, falsely claiming Steve Marshall doesn’t stand up for victims or hold criminals accountable. My family knows firsthand that’s completely false.
“When my brother, a police officer, was murdered, Steve made sure the killers were held accountable, securing life sentences, including one without parole. When one came up for parole, Steve was there. He stood with us and fought to keep a cop killer behind bars. Because of Steve, they are still in prison where they belong. That’s not politics, that’s leadership.
“Barry Moore’s allies are exploiting our loss, distorting the truth and using our pain to attack a man who delivered justice for our family. It’s dishonest, disgusting and highlights everything that’s wrong with Washington.
“If Congressman Moore has any integrity, he’ll demand this ad be taken down immediately.”
