Alabama Attorney General is First and Only Candidate for U.S. Senate to Sign Americans for Tax Reform’s Pledge

Attorney General Steve Marshall signs the Taxpayer Protection Pledge at Americans for Tax Reform in Washington

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, a candidate for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate, signed Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge in Washington this morning, where he was joined by ATR’s Founder and President Grover Norquist.

“I strongly applaud Steve Marshall for taking a principled stand and signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. He has exhibited a true dedication to fiscal responsibility and pro-growth tax policy by making this commitment. This Pledge is a powerful symbol of his unwavering support for taxpayers and their right to keep more of their hard-earned money,” ATR President Grover Norquist said.
“With Marshall’s Pledge, we can trust that he will champion pro-growth policies, protect our economic freedom and resist any attempts to burden Americans with even higher taxes.”

Marshall is the first and only candidate in the 2026 race for U.S. Senate in Alabama to sign the pledge. With it, those seeking to hold federal office vow to their constituents to “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.” Established in 1986, the Taxpayer Protection Pledge has proven to be one of the most durable and effective measures of a candidate or lawmaker’s commitment to conservative values and fiscal responsibility.

“As the first and only candidate in this race to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, I’m putting my commitment to Alabama taxpayers where it counts — in writing. No games, no wiggle room,” Attorney General Steve Marshall said. “Alabama families work too hard to have even more of their money taken in Washington, and they deserve a Senator who will fight to protect every dollar of it.”

“I’m a conservative’s conservative. I’ve spent my career as Attorney General beating back federal overreach, defending the Second Amendment, protecting the unborn and standing up for Alabama’s working families,” Marshall said. “While other politicians may talk a good game, I’ve spent my career doing what I said I’ll do. Signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge is just one more promise I’m proud to make — and one more I intend to keep as the next Senator from Alabama.”

Attorney General Steve Marshall meets with Grover Norquist, Founder and President of Americans for Tax Reform, to discuss policy priorities.
